SMECO Crews Assist BGE With Outages

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) today announced that it provided assistance Sunday to Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), which experienced power outages during storms Saturday night. SMECO sent the cooperative’s own crews and contract crews from Pike Electric Sunday morning to assist with the investor-owned utility’s restoration efforts in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s counties.

“SMECO’s Southern Maryland service territory was minimally impacted by Saturday night’s storms, and we were pleased to have been able to help our neighboring utility when they needed assistance,” said Austin J. Slater, Jr., SMECO’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “SMECO regularly and gladly provides assistance to BGE and other electric utilities when it will not impact service restoration efforts to our own customer-members.”
