PRESS RELEASE

SMECO Crews Work to Restore Power

Update: April 17, 2007, 5 p.m.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) crews worked throughout the night Monday and all day Tuesday to restore service to customer-members left without power as a result of the recent storm. The rain and wind took down trees and limbs, which fell on power lines and caused most of the damage to the electric system.

Power was restored to all customers in St. Mary’s County by 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. As of 4:15 p.m., all customers in Calvert County had their power restored. In Charles and Prince George’s counties, 96 customers, who were without power as of 5 p.m., were expected to have electric service restored by nightfall.

Any customers who are without power should call 1-888-440-3311 to report their outage to SMECO. Customers may also use the automated phone system by dialing SMECO’s outage hotline at 1-877-747-6326.
