In accordance with the Cooperative’s policy, all individuals must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for employment. Also, the Cooperative will not employ blood relatives of either present employees or Board members closer than first cousin, or related by marriage if the relationship is closer than uncle or aunt.
Prior to employment, SMECO requires a physical examination by a physician designated by the Cooperative. This examination includes drug and alcohol tests. A background investigation is also completed by an employment screening service for each candidate selected for hire.
