CUSTOMER CHOICE

The state of Maryland has developed a customer education campaign to help consumers learn about customer choice. The campaign began in April 2000, and is first aimed at the customers of investor-owned utilities who will begin customer choice on July 1, 2000. SMECO customers will start seeing the education campaign in 2001 before the Co-op’s customer choice program begins. Below is a list of Maryland customer choice education resources now available.
A state consumer information web site is located at http://www.md-electric-info.com/. Here you can get the details on Maryland’s customer choice program, view a question-and-answer section, find out what suppliers are licensed to sell electricity in Maryland, or request a free consumer guide to customer choice.
Maryland also has an answer center for consumers interested in customer choice. The toll-free number is 1-800-800-4491.
