Scholarships Available from SMECOFor the 2008-2009 school year, SMECO is offering $1,500 college scholarships to four high school seniors who are graduating in 2008. Eligible students will have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and must live and attend school within SMECO’s service area.
Application packages must be submitted by Friday, February 29, 2008. To receive an application, guidelines, or for more information, visit your school’s guidance counselor or download it in Adobe Reader format. Completed application packages may be dropped off at any SMECO office or mailed to SMECO, P.O. Box 1937, Hughesville, Maryland, 20637, Attention: Bernadette Lewis. Application package items must be submitted together.
Scholarships will be awarded based on students’ scholastic achievement (40 percent); financial need (50 percent); and an interview, school involvement, and community involvement (10 percent). Essays and required documentation will be evaluated by SMECO’s Scholarship Awards Committee, then the top seven candidates will be interviewed by the committee on Saturday, March 22.
